Their project Snow Poems has garnered much success since their first project with the New Mexico School of the Arts and was nominated as a 2012 finalist for SITE Santa Fe’s SPREAD grant.
During Edie’s stay she worked on a large, amazingly detailed and textural drawing exploring the shape of identity and on her presentation for the SPREAD grant. HEREKEKE staff helped finalize images from her data base and created fine art prints of some of the more ephemeral images. Edie’s stay coincided with the class from the California College of the Arts, who had just been discussing tools for presenting work and entering professional call for entries. Edie went through a trial run of her presentation for the class, and a hugely rewarding and valuable discussion for all ensued.
HEREKEKE is looking forward to having Edie back as a Visiting Artist along with her daughter Che, who joined Edie for the end of her stay.

Their investigations began before arriving at HEREKEKE with a 3-week long journey through ancient Native American historic sites and contemporary villages to investigate the traditional life, ceremonies and mythologies of the Southwestern tribes.

Dragica is the director of Figurentheater Hibisskuss in Stuttgart, Germany and has received several awards and won theater competitions in Stuttgart and other parts of Germany. For the realization of her pieces she collaborates with actors, puppeteers, dancers, visual artists and lighting technicians. She has led several co-productions with Figurentheater Stuttgart and other theaters in Stuttgart, as well as Compagnie Docha in France, and Eclat - a festival for modern music in Stuttgart, the Goethe Institutes of Belgrade and Samara, Russia.

This was Sonja's third Artist Residency at HEREKEKE. Her "Snow Drawings" project has gained much press on NPR, the Discovery Channel, Japanese Public TV, and is featured on several online sites such as the Huffington Post. Sonja is the recipient of several prestigious artist residency awards in America and Internationally, and has exhibited in art and film-festivals in China, Germany and the US. www.s-hinrichsen.net

It was wonderful having Beth and her eight year old son, Eli, at HEREKEKE while he attended Roots & Wings Community School down the road. As part of her Collaborative Artist Residency, Beth held a weekly ‘Community Doodle’ for adults and a separate youth art afternoon for local residents. Thank you, Beth!
