HEREKEKE
Inquiring into Sustainability through Creative Practices
The name HEREKEKE (‘here-ke-ke) is a sound that incorporates ideas of home, heart and harmony with those of compassion, action and strength. An open word that defines itself in the process as its meaning is created over time.  It was founded in August of 2008 by three Artists whose vision allows for continual growth based on local needs and interests, the regional environment, and the development of creative
practices through sustainability.

With all present and future programing, HEREKEKE is dedicated to inquiring into sustainability through creative practices locally, regionally and globally.  Many of our programs help bridge creative processes, build upon creative legacies of the region and strengthen community from within.
Organization
During its first year, HEREKEKE began renovations to the existing Ranch House to include the Printmaking Studio, launched the {mEdiALab}, Visiting Artist & Residency Programs, and provided art and media activities for the Sangre de Cristo Youth Ranch; a free skills-based summer camp.  Resident Artists also provide a community service to local residents in the form of workshops, readings and lectures.

HEREKEKE is located on a small-scale working/teaching farm and ranch dedicated to public programming in the high dessert region of Northern New Mexico. Surrounded by Carson National Forest and situated on the southern slope of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains at 8,200 feet, it is home to several non-profits, many of which work in partnership with HEREKEKE.
